Mighty Acorn sampler

January 2, 2021 By patgeary

Wild is the music of the autumnal winds amongst the faded woods.

~ William Wordsworth ~

Mighty Acorn is one of the samplers included in the new book by Blackbird Designs called Winds of Autumn. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw the cover photo. Once I received the book, I cut some fabric for two of the included samplers and pulled the floss.

Recommended Fabric: 36ct Wren by Picture This Plus. I am stitching this one on 16ct Heartland by Picture This Plus. At least, I think that is what it is.

Recommended Floss and any changes I made cause I did not have the color.

I added the initials of my two sons, Frank and Michael to honor them. We lost Frank to cancer in December 2011.

And here it is framed ready for spacers and glass.

Pat, I have been following you for sometime. I, too, am unable to work on linen. I would like to know what Aida cloth you are comfortable working on and what stitch adjustments are necessary.

    Thank you,
    Pat Carter

Right now I see well enough to stitch on 16ct aida and sometimes 18ct. If the chart has any over 1 stitches, I use 28ct Monaco but that is much harder on my eyes. It is to difficult to do fractional stitches on aida, at least in my opinion. I try an check out charts before I buy them to make sure they do not have a lot or any fractional stitches. And aida comes in so many beautiful colors now, it is not hard to find something I like.
