Petites Lettres Rouges SAL

February 18, 2020 By patgeary

Petites Lettres Rouges is a free chart offered by Blackbird Designs in 2009. The Fans of Blackbird Designs Facebook group decided to stitch this one as a SAL (Stitch-a-Long) in 2020. Since the chart was free anyone in the group was free to join us. We each picked our favorite fabric and floss colors to use. I decided to use 28ct rose Monaco that I had in my stash and Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe floss (Claret, February Flowers, and Forever in My Heart.)

We started stitching on February 15th, but you are free to start at any time. This one I am going to stitch in memory of my paternal grandmother Sammie Lipscomb Bayless who was born in 1890.

Linen And Threads – Mystery Sampler SAL

February 8, 2020 By patgeary

Another Stitch-A-Long I discovered posted on Facebook, was the Linens and Threads Mystery Sampler SAL that is offered by Linens and Threads in Australia. This is at least the 4th year they have offered this and all of the projects are stunning.

The one for 2020 is called Friends and Family and is inspired by antique Quaker and Vierlande samplers.  It includes both traditional and new motifs, and allows you to personalize your sampler to celebrate your Friends and Family.

Each month on the first, Linens and Threads will release a new piece of the Mystery Sampler as a free downloadable chart. And along with this years charts, each month will feature a bonus chart of an ornament.

Linens and Threads 2020 Mystery Sampler – Family and Friends

The sampler itself has a stitch count of 244 wide x 244 high so not small. You can read all about this years Mystery Sampler as well as the ones offered for previous years from the links below. And the charts are FREE.

  • Friends and Family, the 2020 Linen and Threads Mystery Stitch A Long (SAL).
  • 2019 Mystery Sampler – A Peacock’s Garden
  • 2018 Mystery Sampler – Medieval Menagerie
  • 2017 Mystery Sampler – A Band Sampler

If you decide to stitch one of these beauties, join the Facebook group created for stitchers Linen And Threads – Mystery Sampler SAL, There you can post your progress and see photos of all the beautiful creations and color choices.

Vintage Vase by Verbena

February 7, 2020 By patgeary

As if I really needed to join another Stitch A Long (SAL)!! Someone had posted on Facebook about one being offered by Irina Veber of Verbena Cross Stich, a Russian Designer. After looking at her charts, I decided I needed to join.

You need to be a member of the Verbena group.

You need to show your progress and the final result in the group.

Registration for the project and distribution of patterns is from January 27 to February 14, 2020. The term of the SAL is from January 27 to may 31, 2020. To get the pattern, let me know what pattern you’d like to stitch.

You can choose a pattern in my store by following the link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/VerbenaCS

Please share information about this group and SAL and invite fellow stitchers to join us in this adventure.

So I visited her shop and made my choice of Vintage Vase pictured above. The other one I really like was Quaker Flower.

I decided to use a piece of 16ct aida from Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe along with some of Nancy Turner’s beautiful floss to stitch this project.

Vintage Vase supplies

Floss Colors I am using are:

  • Weathered Tan
  • Primitive Purple
  • Jacob’s Ladder
  • Pale Lavender Grey
  • Verbena
  • Soft Mauve
  • Best Friends

Think about joining us. You can find her the Verbena Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/VerbenaCS/

And here it is June 2022 and this one has finally made its way out of the “finished stitching drawer” into a frame. Just an inexpensive frame from Hobby Lobby that was on sale for half price. Not as elegant as my custom ordered frames but no longer hidden in the drawer.

Alphabet Heart Sampler

January 26, 2020 By patgeary

I first saw this chart featured on the Dyeing to Stich Facebook page and went searching for it. Turns out it was posted on DMC Threads Blog as a Back to School Freebie. The last post to this blog is dated 2015 so I am not sure it is being kept up. The chart is apparently no longer available. If I am able to locate it again, I will post a link. Glad I saved it the first time around.

heart-sampler

The picture shown above is from the DMC Threads post and shows the chart stitched with DMC Variations. Others have stitched this chart in shades of pink to rose.

Dyeing to Stitch offers a pale pink linen in a variety of counts to stitch this with Classic Colorworks Rosebud thread. If you are a member of the Dyeing to Stitch Facebook group, you can view a photo of the finished piece.

FEBRUARY 2021 I recently saw a couple of folks post this in a Facebook stitching group I belong to and decided to contact DMC to see if the chart was posted anywhere and if I could share it. They graciously sent me the original chart which I am sharing here. There is also a jpg image that may print a slight bit sharper.

In looking through my stash, I already had a piece of 16ct cream aida gridded to the correct size so decided to use it with three shades of Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe floss, Red Rooster, Old Red Roses, and Fairy Pink.

I finished stitching this one on February 20, 2021. I thought I had a piece of fabric I could use for the back but it is to red rather than a cranberry red so will need to keep looking. I am glad to finally have this one stitched.

And here it is June 2021 and it has been finished and on the way home to me.

Cross-Stitch Heart with Quaker Motifs

January 25, 2020 By patgeary

I recently saw this sweet design posted by a friend on Facebook so I went in search to see if I could find it. Success.

Quaker Heart stitched in red and blue.
Quaker Heart

Janice Wood created a sweet cross-stitch heart, which incorporates a traditional Quaker sampler motifs with an alphabet on one side of the heart and the date and recipient’s initials on the reverse.

You can read the entire article Cross-Stitch Heart with Quaker Motifs and download the charts.

I stitched this on 16ct white aida with Sulky 12 weight 712.

A Christmas Quaker Medallion

January 14, 2020 By patgeary

A Quaker Christmas Medallion by Guilia Manfredini of Giulia Punti Antichi was published in the August 2015 issue of Just CrossStitch magazine. I had seen the finished ornament posted in another group so went in search of the magazine. Luckily another stitcher saw my post and sent me the magazine.

A Christmas Quaker Medallion
A Christmas Quaker Medallion

The recommended fabric was 32ct natural/white dots Belfast petit point linen but I am not a fan of linen or dotted fabric. I chose to stitch it on 28ct Monaco as the lettering and the date is stitched over 1. The recommended floss is Thread Gatherer Silk ‘N Colors so I am using a combination of DMC and Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe Floss.

  • TG 317 Dung Paper/DMC 3011
  • TG 055 Camouflage Green/DMC 936
  • TG 074 in the burgundy/DMC 814

My colors:

  • VMSS Olde Cranberry
  • DMC 936
  • VMSS Something Wicked for the bird.
  • DMC 3011

Now to decide how to finish this one. I also want to stitch another one in brighter colors.

Blackbird Designs Christmas

January 7, 2020 By patgeary

Just after Christmas I received a lovely surprise box from my very favorite designers, Barb and Alma of Blackbird Designs. Just look at all the goodies that were included.

Blackbird Designs Christmas Box.

The charts were ones from a recent retreat held in November 2019 at The Attic in Mesa AZ. I had seen them posted earlier and really wanted to stitch the two smaller ones. The large sampler, Little Birds, I will hold for a later start as it is BIG. Two pieces of 18ct Heartland aida were also included. Needless to say, I am a very happy camper. Thank you Barb and Alma.

I decided to start on Autumn Abundance first, so gridded the piece of fabric and started stitching. I have stitched two of the five sections.

I asked another stitcher, Jan Emerick, if she would finish this one for me. Here is the finished piece and I love it especially the little twig at the top.

Home of a Needleworker

January 6, 2020 By patgeary

Home of a Needleworker by Little House Needleworks has been in my stash for quite a few years now. The Little House Needleworks Facebook group offered a Samplers Sunday SAL for 2020 and I figured this might just be the encouragement I needed to get started. The official starting date was December 29, 2019 and while I had my supplies assembled, I did not actually start stitching until January 4, 2020.

Supplies for Home of a Needleworker

I chose to stitch this one on 16ct Heartland aida from Picture This Plus using Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe threads.

  • DMC Ecru/VMSS Olde Buttercream
  • DMC 355/VMSS Autumn Bounty Dark
  • DMC 356/VMSS Autumn Bounty Light
  • DMC 420/VMSS Primitive Stitching
  • DMC 729/VMSS Dried Cinnamon
  • DMC 869/VMSSS titching Together
  • DMC 3051/VMSS Fern Fronds
  • DMC 3052/VMSS Spring Grass
  • DMC 3371/VMSS Harvest Brown
  • DMC 3828/VMSS Summer Playhouse
Progress as of January 5, 2020

I put the final stitches in this piece on April 30, 2020. I’m going to have a friend help me finish it as a quilted wall hanging.

I went to visit my friend, Beryl Lawson, who is a quilter and fabric collector. I wanted to see if she had anything in her fabric collection that might work with this piece as a wall hanging. Look at this beautiful fabric she gave me.

Now I need to get to work finishing this piece which I am going to hang on the door of my craft room/office.

And here it is finished and ready to hang. I had a hard time sewing a straight line because of my poor eyesight and I could not hold the IPad straight enough to get a good picture.
