Christmas Quaker

January 19, 2024 By patgeary

Lindsey Weight of Primrose Cottage is a new designer to me. I LOVE her Quaker series and plan to stitch all of the seasons. Christmas Quaker is the first one I have stitched. I bought both the chart and the finishing kit for this one. The finishing kit included the floss, backing fabric, a piece of wool for the back and the rickrack trim.

The chart recommended 28ct mushroom 2 over 2, I chose a piece of 28ct white Lugana I had in my stash. I used the cherry cobbler floss for everything except the tree. I stitched that with Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe Kris Kringle Green.

I’ll probably wait and finish it once I have stitched Winter Quaker which is next up. I decided not to use the backing fabric that came with the finishing kit. Instead, I used something I had in my stash.

October’s Party

January 7, 2024 By patgeary

Autumn is my very favorite time of the year. So when I saw October’s Party by Little House Needleworks posted in one of my Facebook groups, I knew I HAD to stitch it.

I selected a piece of 16ct aida I had in my stash. No idea of the color but it was a mottled light orange and tan with the called for floss colors.

Unfortunately, as I was stitching I made mistake in the placement of the verse but did not discover it until I had finished stitching the verse. I knew if I started frogging to fix said mistake, the whole thing would have ended up in the trash. So I just went on and made adjustment to the leaves on both sides.

I had purchased a pretty fabric with a leaf design that I plan on using to make either a flatfold or wall hanging or maybe a drum. We shall see.

I ended up ordering an inexpensive 8 1/2 x 11 black frame from Amazon for $15.99. I covered a piece of matboard with some pretty fabric I had that matched the colors. The frame is deep enough so as long as you use matboard for mounting instead of foam core, there is room for the glass and spacers and backing board.

Bluework Pears

December 28, 2023 By patgeary

Bluework Pears is a 2023 release by Annie Beez Folk Art. This design features three patterns of blue samplers in the shape of pears.

The Models are stitched on 35 count Light Khaki linen from Weeks Dye Works, using 1 strand over 2 linen threads with Dinky-Dye Silk. DMC conversion provided. Templates and finishing instructions are included.

Stitch Counts:
Birds: 47w X 68h
Alphabet: 47w X 65h
Floral: 39w X 64h

Bluework Pears chart cover.

I chose to stitch mine on different fabric using different color floss for each one.

Birds

For this one I chose a piece of 28ct white Lugana and Sulky au ver a soie 100/3 silk floss color #010. I stitched two over two.

Alphabet

For this one I chose a piece of Picture This Plus 16ct Aerial aida using Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe floss Americana Blue.

Floral

I again used a piece of 28ct white Lugana with Mo’s Murky Blue silk floss.

The photos really do not do them justice. Now they are off the Vonna Pfeiffer, finisher extraordinaire to work her magic.

A Sweet Memory

December 22, 2023 By patgeary

The very first time I saw A Sweet Memory by Silver Creek Samplers, I knew I had to stitch this for my two sons. Even though the youngest is 59 and my oldest would be 62 this year, it brought back memories of drawings on the ceilings using the top bunk of their bed.

I chose a piece of 28ct mushroom lugana to stitch it on and used the called for colors except for the handprint and bear. For those two I used Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe, Havana Brown. This one ended up being my last finish for 2023. I need to measure it and figure out a frame.

I stitched their initials over one. I wanted to add the year they were each born but there was just not enough room. I love how it turned out. Now to find the perfect frame for it.

I ordered the frame from Amazon and it included glass and backing board. I’ll add spacers between the glass and stitched piece.

Holiday Spirit

December 7, 2023 By patgeary

Holiday Spirit was a free chart offered by Robin at Samplerbird Stitchery back in 2010. stitched it sometime in 2023.

I finished it as a flat ornament with twisted cording I made from the two colors I stitched with. I wish I had gotten the cording a little tighter twisted but this will have to do. I added a bow and a heart button to finish this off. The indents are from the clips I use to hold the cording in place and do disappear.

Peace on Earth

December 6, 2023 By patgeary

Peace on Earth is a free chart from Luminous Fiber Arts Misty Pursel. The chart came with her request to respond to a survey. I chose to stitch this one on a piece of 16ct Bay Leaf aida I had in my stash. I used Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe floss Sewing Notion and Olde Cranberry. I plan on stitching this again using different colors.

The stitch count is 56h x 73w and calls for two shades of red floss. I chose to stitch this one (actually two) on 16ct Bay Leaf aida using white (Primitive White) and red floss (Red Rooster) by Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe. Both will be finished as flat hanging ornaments.

Christmas Bullfinches

November 28, 2023 By patgeary

North East Stitching Designs (a UK designer) is a new designer to me. When I first saw Christmas Bullfinches, I knew I wanted to stitch it.

The design has a stitch count of 81 x 79 Stitches and on 16ct measures 5.1 x 4.9 in. It only uses three DMC colors – 310, 3023, and 3801.

Not sure how I will finish it as yet, either a small ornament or pin pillow. I decided to finish it as a hanging ornament that can be used on a cabinet knob or door. I need to pick up some matching DMC floss so I can make the twisted cording and hanger. I will probably stitch this one again as I like it so much.

I decided to keep this one for myself this year. I’s hanging on the inside of our front door.

Days of Christmas

November 25, 2023 By patgeary

Days of Christmas is a new series by Pigeon Coop Designs. The first three in the series have been released. The designs are available to order as a kit or just the pdf of the chart.

Partridge & Pear – This design is 69 stitches wide by 69 stitches high and calls for 11 different DMC colors. When stitched on 14 count Aida fabric, it fits well into a 6″ embroidery hoop.

Turtle Doves – This design is 66 stitches wide by 64 stitches high and uses 12 different DMC colors. When stitched on 14 count Aida fabric, it fits well into a 6″ embroidery hoop.

French Hens – This design is 63 stitches wide by 67 stitches high and uses 12 different DMC colors. When stitched on 14 count Aida fabric, it fits well into a 6″ embroidery hoop.

I chose to stitch mine on 16ct white aida with the called for floss and finish them as ornaments. I bought the cording on a spool, but it takes almost the entire spool for just two ornaments. So, I need to go get some more if I want the series to match. I may decide to add a bow to hide the pin or use a different pin.

House on Holly Hill

November 19, 2023 By patgeary

House on Holly Hill is one of the ten projects in the book Peppermint and Holly. While it has been long Out of Print, it was reprinted in November 2023. It is designed to be stitched on 30ct Goldfinch by R & R Reproductions over 1. I chose to stitch this one on 16ct Friendship Greene by Fabrics by Stephanie with the called for floss, Weeks Dye Works Bark, Cocoa, Lancaster Red, and Angel Hair.

I finished it as a flat ornament with twisted cording around the edge.

Autumn Skies

October 27, 2023 By patgeary

Fall is my very favorite time of year. It was always the time of year my husband and I headed out west for our 6-8 weeks camping trips visiting our National Parks. Fall colors are also my favorite colors. When I saw Autumn Skies by Hands on Designs, I knew I wanted to stitch the small pillow.

The chart pack was offered as a kit including the chart, felt trim and buttons. The checkboard ribbon was not included.

I selected a piece of 16ct Natural aida I had in my stash and the DMC floss. Luckily, I had a roll of ribbon that I thought might work.

I’m not sure how I will finish this one as yet but happy with how it turned out.

I decided to finish this one as a small pin pillow to add to my dough bowl collection.
